Instructor Logistics

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide elite college, career, academic, and social-emotional learning (SEL) prep for K-12 students, at a non-elite price to ensure ALL students experience a smooth transition between elementary school, middle school, high school, and post-secondary education.

Our emphasis is on helping underserved student populations from urban and rural backgrounds to close the post-secondary achievement gap.

•Since 2013, we have worked with over 45,000 unique students across 400+ programs at 150+ school sites.

We provide a wide range of student support services for schools to choose from. Our programming follows two main pathways, with additional bespoke services for English language learners (ELL) and undocumented students

College & Career Readiness, including college application completion, financial aid, SEL workshops, career exploration, and structured mentorship

Academic Support, including interventional tutoring, SAT / ACT prep, graduation exam prep, and Gifted & Talented (G&T) early-prep programs

Our services also include parent engagement, and professional development (PD) programs.
Our services can be provided both in-person and remotely, depending on the school’s preference.

Onboarding

You will have an initial 1-on-1 meeting with a Follow Us representative before starting your first staffing. The objectives of this meeting are to

  1. Understand your interests, skills, preferences, and level of comfort with each of our service areas so we can match you with the best staffings

  2. Review and answer any questions you may have

Communication with Follow Us and Clients

You will have a main point-person from Follow Us for each of your staffings. Your point-person may vary depending on staffing location, your willingness to travel, and your skill set. This will all be outlined in each Statement of Work, which governs each contract that you fulfill for a Client. The Client is the school or organization where you will be providing your education services.

Keep track of the emails you receive from Follow Us regarding your staffing. We will email you key information such as schedules and Client contact information (i.e. who will be your point-person once you arrive to a staffing.)

As the independent contractor, YOU are responsible for day-to-day operations/communications with the Client. Please feel free to CC and include your Follow Us point-person, but if you need to change a workshop date and can’t make a certain class date, please coordinate directly with the Client. This is the most straightforward and easiest approach, as you are managing this project. If you need any help or have any other questions, just reach out to your Follow Us point-person!

Please note that responsiveness to Clients is crucial. You should respond to Clients within 24 hours of contact. If you are unable to do so, let your Follow Us point-person know so they can help. Responsiveness can be as simple as replying to the client to say you are not sure and CC’ing your Follow Us point person for their input.

Staffing Schedules

  • Once you agree to a staffing, we will send you a Google calendar invite. Keep track of your calendar invites! Stay on top of any Google calendar requests; check corresponding emails for clarification.

  • Once an initial introduction email is made with the Client, please respond to confirm the program details, and let them know if you want to change or update anything.

  • Familiarize yourself with the NYC Department of Education (DOE) current school year calendar, which is located here. Do not go in on closed school days. There will be NO workshops on closed school days! You will not be compensated if you go to a school on a closed school day.

  • If you are unable to continue your Statement of Work contract for any reason, please immediately inform the Client and your Follow Us point-person. Try to avoid doing this, especially last minute, because it is unprofessional and may impact future staffings. You are welcome to assign this Statement of Work to another instructor on your own that meets the Client’s requirements.

  • Each Statement of Work contract with a Client is for a specified amount of time, and that time must be fulfilled, regardless of attendance or other factors. For example, if a workshop is 2 hours and everyone leaves after 1 hour, you are still contractually obligated to the Client to remain for the additional hour. (Sometimes participants will come back, sometimes they come in late, etc.) If you have questions on this, please ask your Follow Us point-person for more detail.
